Description
Don Oulton spent nine months of the Korean War as an intelligence and reconnaissance (I&R) scout in the Chorwon Valley. In great detail he talks about Star Hill, Triangle Hill (Hill 598), and Jane Russell Hill, and recalls ninety days of monsoons and sleeping in five inches of water. He also talks about risking his life to save an Ethiopian UN soldier, sniper fire, and close-range combat with the Chinese Communist forces. Daily interaction with the enemy caused him to "[feel] every day that I was never going to make it back home," and these fears stayed with him upon his return home. His touching poem "In Remembrance of Korea Land of the Morning Calm," is read with great emotion as a lasting tribute to the thousands who lost their lives in the Korean War.
